About

1928
Born in Kyoto.
His father collected traditional Japanese ceramics, calligraphy and painting, and his uncle, the painter Domoto Insho (1891-1975), won the Order of Cultural Merit in 1961.

 

1942
He began painting in the high school annex of Kyoto’s school of Fine Arts.

1945-1949
He resumed his education in classical Japanese paintings.

1951
He was admitted to the Nitten and won that cultural group’s grand prize for painting.

1952
He traveled with his uncle to Europe(Italy, France , Spain)

1954
He moved to Paris.

1956
His work was included in the Salon de Mai exhibition.

1957
He became involved with informel movement.

1994
He recieved Shiju hosho (medal of honor with purple ribbon).

2001
He recieved Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.

2007
He was accredited as Bunkakorosha (Person of Cultural Merits).

2013
He died from acute heart failure at the age of 85.
